The grudknows.com website was originally created to keep coding (HTML/XHTML/CSS) skills up-to-date/scratch. I wanted to be able to add 'real life' content (ie. something other than short and boring 'hello world' type guff) to ensure that my coding skills remained relevant/usable.
Then, every now and then people would say, 'Hey, I looked at grudknows' (this was back before the grudknows.com domain). I can't actually remember where the site first lived or when I got artistic (gwuff, snort!) and created the uh... logo-thingy... but the grudknows site definitely dates back to at least 1998, if not earlier. Anyway, people looking at the site made me feel a tad guiltly for not putting up new content (even though this wasn't the original point) and so I'd frantically try put up more content to humour them and stop myself from feeling unnecessarily guilt ridden.
The RSS Feeds came about coz some techo friends decided that they needed them to save time in their oh-so-busy schedules... so I put them up to humour them.
These days parts of the site are updated with extreme regularity, but in a sneaky this-will-only-take-a-minute-kind-of-way (eg. 'bored now', 'friendly spam' and 'latest lists' pages). In addition to these quick and easy updates, every now and then I get inspired to put up something more substantial ... or get inspired to beg, plead and go down on bended knee and generally drive people mad so they'll contribute some original content of their own... occassionally people even volunteer their content. With other people contributing as well, it means that I do still get to use the site to keep coding up-to-date.
A lot more people than before now check the site with reasonable regularity... and sadly, now it's so well indexed in Google I feel even more compelled to provide up-to-date content.
