Me, myself... I

photo

I choose to think of myself as a global citizen, who currently lives in Australia.

Despite my dearest friends thinking and/or describing me as having a z or m chromosome - or, worse still, as fly paper for freaks or a freak magnent, etc - I believe my genetic make-up is pretty standard. Really. Honestly. As for attracting freaks... it's not so much that the people I know are particularly odd... it's just they are all quite different from one another, and thus some of their ideas/habits, etc seem a little mad to other friends with different views. It's healthy to have a range of friends rather than just spend your life mixing with people with the same background, views and outlooks as yourself.

I have an innate interest in people mostly because people are the most interesting things to observe. AND, you know, they all think so differently and have their own quirks and ways of doing and thinking about things - I love hearing other peoples perspectives on things. Sadly for others, this means I can retain the most inane details about people - details that they probably would prefer I'd forget.

The thing I hate most? I hate 'not knowing'. (As a result, I've become good at finding stuff out and looking stuff up... though, this doesn't cover everything).

I like... 'being asked'.

What I'd like to see in my life time? World peace... of course! :) But more realistically(??), I'd be happy with seeing more people learning to think for themselves and be able to and feeling free to express themselves openly. I'd like to see people learn a bit more about other cultures and religions and in doing so become more tolerant of them. I'd like to hear more people speak out on what is important to them and where it's possible for them to do so, take affirmative action on things that are important to them. I'd like to see renewable energies adopted more widely. I'd like to see the environment and civil rights become more important than a short term gain.

As for this year? Who knows yet... it's only just begun and I've been keeping pretty quiet.

On religion and faith

I find religion and faith an endlessly fascinating topic. I choose not to belong to any organised religion or cult. I'm not sure I believe in 'god' or if 'god' is an actual entity but sometimes I chat to god anyway. If quizzed on the matter, I'd probably tell you that 'god' likes me. I don't understand people who care more about which religion and faith a person follows than who the person is.

On the dynamics of relationships

Every now and then I find myself pondering relationships - friendships, romatic associations, family and how they dynamics change, grow or drift based on our life experiences. How sometimes we can hold on for too long... or let go too soon. How some relationships have clearly defined boundaries while others have stretched out of shape or fuzzily defined boundaries. It's probably pointless because each relationship is unique, it's just sometimes interesting to ponder.

My latest lists page probably gives more away... and it's fluid so captures the moods and moments.

Standing invitation to friends

I've issued a standing invitation to friends (now I'm back into cooking again) to invite themselves over to dinner. Minimal notice required - I like spontenatiy and I'm generally up for 'whatever' if I don't have something else on, that is (thus the need to arrange at least a few hours in advance :) - and you might want to ensure I have cupboards stocked so there's actually food. But there's generally wine. You know my number!

Family pets

Pets have always been a huge part of my world... so I think it's worth giving them a mention.
