It seems as though we're aiming to become a police state somewhere in *between* the US and China. Given that it's impossible to accurately filter this sort of thing, how many ISPs do you think will go bust trying to keep up with the law or being sued for not being able to comply?

The person who sent me this link has a point.
Weirdly enough, I was once 'Big Brother' for an organisation, responsible for checking Internet log files and reporting abuse. (I saw this as a work ethic related issue, as there are *some* things that can be saved for your own time - anyway, it was part of my job, so I had to do it regardless of rationale).
At one point (being frustrated with the hours being taken up with the task and therefore having less time to do the other *core* parts of my job) I got tricky and spoke to a few folks to run the idea past them and then used syntax variables to block porn sites - unfortunately there were a few issues with this
The other big thing I noticed in this role was that different people perceive different things as porn - my credo was it had to be pretty much obvious glistening bits, child and animal related sex acts. Some people perceived gay informational resources, art resources (which were actually used by a number of people legitimately using the organisations Internet) and even a tiny flash of the "wrong" piece of skin as porn. My drama with this is, once you start - where's do you draw the line?
Services such as Net Nanny (and similar) are available to parents to filter what their children are able to access. It's doubtful any service will catch everything UNLESS you want to go to the extreme and therefore stop your State/Country from accessing any content that has not been approved by the governing/censoring body (eg. the state/federal government or a committee they've set up for this purpose). Such a method leaves itself wide open to abuse and corruption - possibly affecting commercial interests and resulting in discrimination, bribes, etc.
Over zealous censorship can be equally as destructive/harmful as having little or no censorship at all. Extemes often are.

The Internet is for porn - silly sound bite/song/video (I've probably linked to it in previous friendly spam pages, but here it is again anyway - as for the male voice, think cookie monster. Damn amusing.
I was sent these in an email and tried really hard to find them all on the net but could only find three, those I did find are better than those I didn't (in my opinion).
Others: Nail Biter, hung, gun

Chances are that many of you won't read this article, but I'll point you to it anyway. He's really just pointing at the inconsistencies between what's happening and what we're being told it all means.
