accessibility

site navigation

The site is split into key areas - when you mouse over the menu items, you will see some text appear that gives you an idea of what you can expect to find in that section of the site. When you select a page - the key section the page belongs to will be highlighted in black on the menu (if you are using a graphic browser, that is). If no section is highlighted it means you are on the home page or an 'about this site' page such as site history, contact details, copyright, disclaimer, accessibility, RSS feed info, etc.

All links to other pages and resources on the web are underlined. Underlining is not used on this website for any purpose other than to denote a link. If it's underlined, it's a link.

recommended web browsers

Grudknows does not recommend a specific type of browser recommends that all websites are viewed with a current and compliant web browser such a recent and stable release of Mozilla, Internet Explorer, Netscape or Opera. A more complete list of available web browsers can be found at: dmoz or e-volt.org.

Compliant web browsers use industry standards and therefore will display websites more consistently.

Newer versions of web browsers tend to contain security patches to fix issues identified in older versions of the browser so it makes sense to ensure you have a current version of your browser.

abbreviations and acronym expansion

You have the ability to expand in full most, if not all, acronym and abbreviations used on grudknows.com - mostly because it's damned annoying when people speak/write in acronyms or use abbreviations with which you are not familiar.

Simply move your cursor over the acronym or abbreviation and a tool tip or help text will appear on the screen showing you what the acronym stands for or the word that is being abbreviated in full. If you are using a text reader the expanded form of the acronym or abbreviation may be read to you.

support and usage

In the past acronym and abbreviation tags have been used but with changing specs a span with a title tag is used to expand acronyms and abbreviations on recent or updated content. The use of the title tag is quite widely supported.

cookie usage

Cookies are currently used on the grudknows.com website to:

(*) email addresses

Most, if not all, email addresses on this website are intentionally not hyperlinks.

You will not be able to copy and paste them either as they'll come out wrong... you'll need to do the old fashioned thing and re-type them.

I know this is a little inconvenient and the reason I do it is to provide a little privacy protection (for the person who owns the email address) by trying to avoid having their email address picked up by spam engines.

grudknows site specifications
