Underwater Basketweaving Gets a Friend!

Today was quite possibly a changing point in my life. It was not one of those, "That bus just missed me, I must devote my life to grud" moments, more of a simple hand extension and slap across the face.

Today, the 12th day of July 2006, I discovered Tape Sculpture. What the heck is Tape Sculpture you might ask? Well children gather round and I'll tell you. Ready? It's sculpture, made from tape (and you're a taxi driver, and you pick people up and take them to where they want to go). I was so captivated by some of the creations I found whilst browsing the World Wide Web, homeless man, pooping dog and child hanging for power pole that I was encouraged to make my own.

A workmate and I scoured our office in search of the perfect Tape Sculpture mold, other workmates heads were quickly ruled out due to their desire for oxygen so we settle on a small, yet priceless looking, hand-made piece of pottery in our absent bosses’ office.

Object - check!

Now we needed was some cling wrap! Our staff kitchen supplied us with a new roll of the sandwich wrapping goodness.

Cling wrap - check!

Oh, and we needed tape - else it wouldn't be Tape Sculpture. A quick look in the stationary cabinet found we had a choice! Brown or clear! The decision was clear and we were ready.

The actual logistics of the Tape Sculpture isn't that exciting, it is simply wrapping the object in cling wrap then tape - lots of tape - and then with the precision of an LA plastic surgeon, slicing the sculpture open and birthing the original object and voila, you are left with a funky, lightweight sculpture.

After a few slight nicks, scratches and gouges in the bosses’ pottery, we are left with our first Tape Sculpture. Sure, it's a little Leaning Tower of Pisa-esque but it's great to throw at office mates.

So, if you want something fun to do, to kill a few minutes and waste a few office supplies, I thoroughly recommend Tape Sculpture!

Oh are you still here? I thought I changed my mind on this article?

Tape sculpture sounds fun, but I do need a working example to get me started.

No, no. Fill it full of stuff. Keep it low-tech.

Piñata?!

But... still.. the idea of lights...!
