It's not so much about the lack of work. I'm still up every morning, dressed, off to office (my old employer lets me use computer for job applications) - or on lucky days, off to a temp job and so on - so I'm not rotting at home.
It's the lack of finances.
Not having enough income to cover your bills or live is really depressing and highly stressful. Your stress seeps out from your financial worries and touches every part of your life and convinces you it's all gone to shit (even if it hasn't).
Week days are for happy face, temping and looking for work but weekends are for crying.
